Eleanor Keisman Bio

Eleanor Keisman is an American writer, born in New York. After dropping out of high school, she worked her way up through community colleges in Honolulu, Denver, and upstate New York, finally transferring to Stony Brook University on Long Island, where she studied Fine Arts, but ultimately earned her BA in Liberal Arts from The New School in Manhattan. She left the US and spent over a decade living, studying, and working in France, Czechia, Poland, China, and Austria. Her academic career continued at the University of Vienna, where she studied German and English linguistics. She then worked for a legal tech startup as a bilingual copywriter and marketing consultant (earning an MBA in the process) and an educational NGO, organizing international exchange internships. She holds an MFA in creative writing from Drexel University, where she was the newsletter director and poetry reader for the MFA literary journal, Paper Dragon. She co-organizes an English-language writing group in Vienna, Austria, where she lives. Her short stories, poetry, and essays have appeared in Litro Magazine, The Bangalore Review, Tough Crime, Last Stanza Poetry Journal, and The Wild Umbrella, as well as adapted for The Other Stories podcast. Her first novel, New Animal, was shortlisted for Broken Tribe Press' 2025 MFA Award.
